What is a PayPal Caller ID Spoofing scam?

This was submitted to us by a user after they received multiple phone calls from a caller ID that read PayPal. Once the user answered the call, it was an automated voice that explained that their account had been compromised and in order to recover the account, they must provide the code that will be sent to them.

Once the code is submitted to the scammers, they will then make purchases on your account.

How can you stay safe?

Never trust caller ID. It is very easy for scammers to spoof caller ID and make it seem like their number is coming from someone else. Moreover, never provide a text message 2-Factor Authentication code to anyone over the phone.

Remember, no employee from any reputable company will ask you for this code, ever.
