What is a Words With Friends scam?

As the name implies, this is a scam that targets users of the popular mobile game Words With Friends. We have received many reports from users explaining that they receive unsolicited messages from low rank users with a profile picture of a woman.

The scammer will play a very simple word and then proceed to start a conversation. This often leads to the scammer attempting to solicit cash from you or the beginning of a romance scam.

How can you stay safe?

Block any new user who is sending unsolicited messages to you about meeting up or asking for cash. Make sure to also report the user so moderators can make sure no one else gets scammed.
